This monotype is from the “Stones” series. Click on this image to see more monotypes from this series. They were done using a torn paper reduction technique which I developed. This image reminds me ice or wood floating in water.
Summer Song
9 01 2009
The central segment of this mixed-media print is an etching which was inspired by the spartina grasses, prevalent along the marsh edges of Cape Cod . I imagined the sound of the wind in the grasses expressed in the symbols in the lowest section of the image.

This linocut is based on cunieform writing, with very old Nepalese printing blocks printed above and below. A friend found these blocks in Nepal and purchased them for me. It also includes gold paper in a process called chine-colle . Chine-colle is a collage method for adding color to a print during the printing process.

Palimpsest with gold leaf
16 03 2008A palimpsest is a manuscript, often on parchment, which has been effaced, but traces of the original text remain. This etching is composed of layers of ancient alphabets, similar to the way that one civilization is based on the foundation of those which have preceded it.
