INTRODUCTION TO PRINTMAKING

Instructor: Leslie Kramer

Dates: April 17, 24, May 1, 8 ,15, 22

Time: Friday, 9-11:30 a.m.

 

Description:  This course is an introduction to intaglio printmaking. Students will learn drypoint, one of the most direct printmaking techniques, combined with chine colle, an elegant method of adding colored rice paper to your prints.  We will draw lines directly on our plexiglass or copper plates with a pointed stylus to create the image.  We can also explore monoprinting and collagraph to add color and texture to our prints.  You will learn how to print a small edition of your work on CCAA’s new etching press.You may bring line drawings with you to the first class and we will work on sketches during class time. For beginners or intermediates. Limited to 10.

 Materials Fee: $40.00  Includes papers, ink, drypoint tool,  metal, plexi., etc.

PLEIN AIR MONOPRINTING

Instructor: Leslie Kramer

Dates & Time:  May16 & 17,  9a.m.-4p.m.

 We will use an experimental approach to monoprinting out of doors by doing a series of 

quick paintings on plexiglass and printing them by hand or on our mobile press.  We will explore additive as well as subtractive methods of printing and will use a variety of papers and inks. You may also use your own oil paints.  At the end of each session and in case of inclement weather, we will return to the CCAA to print on the new press.  Bring a lunch and your easels and be prepared to experiment with color and texture in the wilds of Barnstable. Limited to 10.

 Materials fee:  $35.00 for paper, inks, plexiglass, etc.

 REDUCTION LINOLEUM BLOCK PRINTING

Dates & Time: Friday, April 24, 1- 4p.m.

                        Sat. April 25,  9a.m.-3p.m.

                        Sun. April 26, 9a.m.-3p.m

Description: Design, cut and print a multicolor image using a single block of linoleum.  Learn simple hand printing and registration techniques and also how to print on the new press. We will study works from the instructor’s collection with an eye to color and design. Our first meeting will be spent designing and cutting the linoleum.  On Saturday and Sunday, we will print and continue cutting our blocks up to a maximum of four times. You will produce an edition of 8-10 multicolor prints, using from two to four colors. Limited to 10.   Fee: $35.00.
